How to Set Up Chat Bots on Chaturbate: Apps, Bots & Configuration

Chaturbate handles automation through a first-party Apps & Bots system rather than external software. You browse a directory from inside your broadcaster interface, start what you want, and configure it there. Nothing gets installed on your computer, and you do not need a stream key or any third-party account.

Bot directories, names and limits change over time, and individual bots are maintained by their authors rather than by Chaturbate. Where this article names a figure or a category, check it against what your own Apps & Bots panel currently shows before relying on it.

Apps and bots are not the same thing

This distinction confuses most people setting up automation for the first time, and getting it wrong is why some models end up unable to start the thing they actually wanted.

AppBot
RoleThe main mechanic of your roomChat behaviour around it
Typical useTip menu, goal, dice or wheel gameRotating notices, tip responses, moderation helpers
How manyOne at a timeSeveral at once (commonly up to three)
Set up first?Yes — it defines the roomAfter, to support what the app does

Because you only get one app, that choice matters more than any bot decision. A tip-menu app and a goal app both occupying the same slot means picking which mechanic your room is actually built around, and running the other through a bot if a bot version exists.

Setting up, in the order that avoids rework

STEP 1

Decide your room’s central mechanic before browsing. Is the room organised around a visible tip menu, a countdown to a goal, or a game? That answer determines your one app slot. Browsing first tends to produce a room with a game running that nobody asked for.

STEP 2

Choose the app, then read its settings before starting it. Most apps expose configuration — token amounts, menu items, goal targets, display text. Filling these in before you go live is far easier than editing while a room watches you do it.

STEP 3

Add one bot. Only one. Start with the single most repetitive thing you type — usually the periodic notice explaining your menu or current goal. Run a full broadcast with just that before adding anything else, so that if something misbehaves you know what caused it.

STEP 4

Tune the interval down, not up. Rotating notices default to firing more often than most rooms need. A notice every few minutes in a quiet room is the single fastest way to make a room feel automated. Start slower than feels right and increase only if people are genuinely missing the information.

STEP 5

Add remaining bots one broadcast at a time. Two bots that both react to tips will both react to the same tip. Adding them singly, a session apart, makes that obvious immediately instead of leaving you guessing why the room double-posts.

What is worth automating

The useful test is whether you would type the identical thing regardless of who is in the room. If yes, automate it. If the right response depends on who is asking, it is not a bot task.

  • Worth automating: your tip menu, your current goal and its remaining amount, room rules, a recurring note about your schedule, standard reactions to a tip amount.
  • Not worth automating: greeting individual regulars, anything about boundaries or limits, responses to requests, and thanking a large tip — a whale who gets a canned line for a substantial tip notices immediately.

The boundary case is greeting new viewers. It is technically automatable and many bots offer it, but a generic line to everyone who walks in reads as automated to exactly the people you most want to convert. That slot is usually better spent on a notice that repeats information people need.

Troubleshooting

SymptomUsual cause
Bot did nothing all sessionNot started for this broadcast. Starting a bot is per-broadcast on most setups, not a permanent state — check the panel before going live.
Room double-posts on every tipTwo running bots respond to the same trigger. Disable all but one and reintroduce singly.
Bot worked last month, not nowThird-party bots are maintained by their authors. An abandoned bot breaks after platform changes and will not be fixed. Find a maintained alternative.
Cannot start the app you wantAnother app already occupies the single slot. Stop the current one first.
Notices fire too oftenDefault interval. Lower it — this is the most common complaint viewers have about automated rooms.

Before you add a third-party bot

Bots in the directory are written by other broadcasters and developers, not by Chaturbate. That is what makes the ecosystem useful, and it is also why some bots are excellent and others have been unmaintained for years. Prefer bots that are actively updated, and be sceptical of anything asking for information it has no reason to need.

Nothing in the first-party Apps & Bots system requires your password or your stream key. Any tool asking for either is not part of this system, and handing over a stream key lets someone else broadcast to your room.

Did automation actually change anything?

The point of automating notices is more time for the interactions that earn. CamCash tracks tips, sessions and hourly rate from your own history, so you can compare the sessions before and after you changed your setup.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an app and a bot on Chaturbate?

An app generally drives the main mechanic of your room — a tip menu, a goal, a game — and typically changes what viewers see in the room itself. A bot handles chat-level behaviour: responses to tips, rotating notices, greetings. The practical consequence is that you build your room around one app and use bots to handle the repetitive messaging around it.

How many apps and bots can I run at once?

Chaturbate limits apps and bots separately, and the usual figures cited by broadcasters are one app plus up to three bots. Limits change, so treat the number shown in your own Apps & Bots panel as authoritative rather than any figure written elsewhere, including here.

Do I need to write code to use a bot?

No. Chaturbate hosts a directory of bots written by other people that you start and configure through your broadcaster interface. Writing your own is possible but is a completely separate undertaking from using existing ones.

Why did my bot stop working mid-stream?

The most common causes are that the bot was never started for the current broadcast, that a bot has been abandoned by its author and broke after a platform change, or that two running bots are responding to the same trigger and interfering. Restarting the broadcast with only one bot enabled isolates which it is.

Should I automate greeting new viewers?

A generic automated greeting to everyone who enters tends to read as automated, which works against the reason people are in the room. Automating notices that genuinely repeat — your menu, your current goal, your rules — is a better use of the same slot.
